freedom of snaith 

The idea was put to Snaith & Cowick Town Council and it was agreed that the council bestow 51 Squadron R.A.F. honoury Freedom of the Town. This grants the Squadron freedom to enter the town and allows them the right, title and privilege of marching the Streets of Snaith on ceremonial occasions. John Barrett said " This is an ancient honour dating back to Roman times when armed organizations were not allowed in Towns without permission in case of a possible military coup. Today fortunately Martial Freedom of a Town or city is a ceremonial honour. R.A.F. Waddington already has the freedom of Lincoln.
